Stemersion Day 6

Daily Activities

Today was our trip to Carriage Hill Farms. Before we left, we learned a little bit about what life on a farm in the 19th century was like from an excerpt from Little House on the Prairie and an information packet. Using that, we created either narratives or poems. I chose to write a poem.

Spring brings vibrant colors, green, pink, and blue

And fills the air with sounds of life, brand-new.

The crops are planted, pastures, pens, and fences repaired

So that throughout the growing season, we will be prepared.

I feed the animals, horses, chickens and sheep.

Watch the baby chicks, and listen as they peep.

I pick the apples, juicy and red

And move the tools from the garden into the shed.

When the long day is finally finished, I close the barn door.

And wait for tomorrow to do it once more.

We then went to Carriage Hill. It was my favorite place we've gone to so far. The first thing we saw was some sheep and a goat in an enclosure. Here is the goat.

After that we saw a baby sheet and its mom, shown in the first picture above.

I learned a lot about farms today. Before, I didn't realize how early kids began doing chores. For example, 2-3 year-olds were even doing some.
